According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the leading killer of women over age 25. In fact, coronary artery disease, which causes heart attack, is the single leading cause of death for American women. Many women believe that cancer is more of a threat; however that is not the case. Nearly twice as many women in the United States die of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular illnesses than from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
The American Heart Association has identified several factors that increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. While some of these risk factors are not in your control, others can be altered to lower your risk.
